The Good Life

I thought I'd start the new year off with some "good" resolutions, so I picked up the latest issue of this carbon neutral magazine.  It's made in New Zealand and it's masthead states "simple choices for a better life".  Sounds like a GOOD way to start the new year I say.....

Good (Dec 2010/Jan 2011 $7.90) celebrates it's relaunch with a specially wrapped issue and bonus gift (the 'good shopping handbook' valued at $4.95).  New editor Sarah Heeringa says “for me, the good life is about creating a healthy home environment, eating well and buying quality.  It's also about making jam, growing veggies and teaching our kids to be smart with the resources around us - and enjoying more of life's significant moments."

Opening this issue was one such significant moment.  The switch to luxurious, eco-offset paper matches the eco-fabulous vibe of the mag and thanks to the vintage style of Art Director Sally Fullam, the re-design/makeover is a stunning success.  Along with brilliant and beautiful ideas for memorable summer celebrations, the 'Celebrating Summer' issue also takes a close look at what’s in your sunblock, shares inspiring stories of women from the developing world and whips up some delicious summer dishes.

So, after a leisurely browse through this mag's well designed pages I'll be vowing to:

1. Find time to grow a pasta and pizza plot in my garden (p.96)
2. Make Angus Allan's two-step summer risotto using leftover meat (p.90)
3. Ride the thrilling line at the Coromandel's Driving Creek Potteries railway with the kids (p.119)
4. Try not to stress about the sunscreen I've been rubbing on my kids all summer (p.108)
5. Subscribe to Good so I can get my eco-friendly fix every second month (and the free Joico Eco Gift Pack will come in handy too).

Happy New Year!

The December 2010/January 2011 issue of Good is on sale now RRP $7.90 or digitally on Zinio RRP $5.00
